Karl Roser Photography

Born and raised in upstate New York, Karl Roser moved to Pittsburgh in 1998 and quickly fell in love with the city. He attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh where he intended to study graphic design. His plans changed however, when his father gave him a camera. The new medium inspired him to switch his major and would eventually alter his path in life. “I thought photography was alluring - the culture, the travel and the people.  Listening to their stories, studying their features with my eyes and capturing the lives of individuals with photographs."

Then came the big break. Immediately after graduation, Karl was hired as an assistant photographer for the Pittsburgh Steelers. “The knowledge I gained from that experience was indispensable. I learned the ins and outs of professional photography – how to anticipate the best shots, how to be unobtrusive and most importantly, how to listen to clients.” Karl shot on a daily basis - everything from headshots to million-dollar fundraising dinners, from community events to championship and Super Bowl games. “Looking back, I think the turning point was walking into a store, picking up a book and realizing my shot was on the cover! I began to think I really would enjoy doing this for the rest of my life.”

It was with that thought in mind and the experience behind him that Karl set out on his own. "Using photography as a communication tool is no easy task, but if you have a genuine love for the people and for what you do, everything else seems to fall into place.” Over the years his clients have come to appreciate his professionalism, sophisticated journalistic style and down to earth personality.
